Influenster : Aqua Brow Powder + Pencil Duo

We can all agree well groomed brows are important, yes? They frame your face and complete your eye makeup. I’ve been using the ABH Dipbrow Pomade (ash-brown) and the NYX Micro Brow Pencil (ash-brown) interchangeably. However, I’m always willing to try a new product.

PROS :
pigmented
buildable color
looks natural
a little goes a long way
pencil glides smoothly
innovative
travel friendly
stays put

CONS :
wipes off easily
no brush/spoolie to blend out powder

OVERALL :

I was skeptical about the LASHFOOD Brow Food Aqua Brow Powder + Pencil Duo at first. It’s a challenge for me to find just the right ash-brown shade for my brows. Most dark brown shades have far too much red and the black shades are well, too dark. I need something that has a bit of grey in it to tone down the red in most browns.

Directions say to first outline define your brows with the pencil, then fill in with powder. What’s different about the powder is it’s a powder to cream formula. It feels cool to the touch when applied. The pencils glides on smooth and the powder blends quite well. Both are well pigmented. As far as the color, Taupe, it worked well with my hair color as it’s just a bit lighter.

Staying power is great so long as you don’t accidentally wipe your forehead. But that’s not really a con to me because I normally try not to mess with my brows once they’re done.

Additionally, you will need brow brush or spoolie and a clear brow gel (if you use it) to finish your bows off. I didn’t find any other negatives about this product that would prevent me from purchasing. At 25$ a pop, I feel it’s a great all in one product.

Influenster : Sigma Aura Powder

When I want to look less sleep deprived (read: human) I wake up my face with blush. Today I tested out the new Sigma Aura Powder Blush in the shade ‘Nymphaea’ (a majestically subtle coral) with their Sigma F40 Large Angled Contour Brush.

PROS :
blends easily
buildable
large pan size
available in skin flattering shades
compact includes mirror

CONS :
dusty fallout when swiped with brush

OVERALL :

The Aura Powder can be used all over for a touch of highlight and color; as if you spent a few minutes in the sun. I love the generous size of the compact and mirror.

This is the first time I’ve used a Sigma brush, too! I found the bristles to be soft and it applied product well.

Nymphaea is such a pretty shade! It reminds me of NARS ‘Angelika’ Blush which is one of my all time favorite. The color showed up well on my skintone and it lasted for about 8 hours or so without any touch up.

Influenster : Aquis Luxe Lisse Hair Towel

PROS :
cuts drying time
lightweight
soft

CONS :
falls off; cannot tie or secure it

OVERALL :
Let me preface this review by saying my hair is waist-length and it tends to retain water, so I was pretty skeptical about this product. When I wrapped the Aquis Luxe Lisse Hair Towel around my head and twisted it into a turban, there was about 2-3″ of my ends hanging out of the towel so I tucked the ends in to compensate. There’s another version for long hair so look into getting that one if your locks are as long as mine!

I appreciate the soft, lightweight material and ease of use. My only complaint other than it not being big enough for my hair, is it won’t stay on if you tilt your head. I tend to put makeup on while I wait for my hair to dry so looking up while putting on mascara caused the towel to unravel. It’s not a big deal but, I thought I’d mention it since there are similar products in the market that have elastic to prevent this from happening. Squid also makes a turban style so that’s a better option especially if your hair is long and thick.

I left the towel on for about 45 minutes and once I let my hair down it was noticeably less damp than when I use a regular towel. I’m convinced! I can see myself using this daily as it is useful and from my experience, does what it claims.

The Aquis Luxe hair towel is available at Sephora and retails for $30-$40.

TooFaced Born This Way Foundation

PROS :
glass bottle with a pump
blends well
dries to semi-matte finish
no scent
good color range

CONS :
emphasizes dry patches
separates and looks cakey
not for dry skin
oxidizes
does not last long
expensive

OVERALL :
I wanted to love this foundation because it seemed like it’s on the top of everyone’s must have/holy grail lists. Sadly, it just did not work for me.

While it looked great after applying with a damp beauty sponge, over the course of the day (about 8 hours) I noticed a lot of patchy areas around my cheeks, cakey-ness and oiliness on my forehead and overall oxidation. I felt it made the oily areas I do have worse as the day wore on. It was not cute! I couldn’t believe how bad it performed and looked considering the high ratings and price point.

Once I washed it off with my usual cleanser (Philosophy Purity) I could tell my skin did not care for it. My skin is normal to dry (cheeks and forehead) and I noticed this foundation made my skin feel and look drier. Perhaps it’s the hyaluronic acid or coconut water in the formula? I’m not sure. I thought maybe it was a fluke and used it again the next day but, nope it still sucked.

I’m a fan of the TooFaced line but, I’m sad to say this was a fail. I do not recommend it.

KVD Everlasting Lip Liners

I was lucky enough to be selected by Influenster to test out the new Kat Von D Beauty Everlasting Lip Liner in LOLITA! Since I already own this shade in their Everlasting Liquid Lipstick I knew it would work well with my skintone. There’s a reason why it’s a cult favorite, it’s a universally flattering shade.

PROS :

opaque color payoff
available in 30 shades
glides on smooth
not sticky or tacky
smudge proof
long lasting
retractable
precise application
vegan and cruelty free

CONS :

can feel dry when applied w/out lip balm
price point may be high for some
only 0.03g of product compared to other brands

OVERALL :

Not only does this lip liner apply like a dream – no tugging – it stays on and doesn’t dry out my lips like other brands. I swatched it on my arm and had a difficult time trying to take it off. I ended up using two baby wipes and even then it left a stain on my skin – impressive!

However, on my lips, is another story. If you line and fill in your lips and then eat a meal, it will eventually wear away in the middle and you’ll be left with an outline of color. That’s pretty normal and I find it happens with most lip products that claim to be long-lasting.

Shade range is excellent! There are 30 (THIRTY!) shades altogether, so you’re bound to find one to suit any mood and skin tone. I do hope they’ll release other colors to match their Studded Kiss line, like my other favorite ‘Mother’.

As with all KVD products the packaging and attention to design is great. I appreciate the retractable pencil and not having to fiddle with sharpening it. As for the amount of product in the tube, there’s only about 0.01oz (or 0.3g). Unfortunately, that’s much less than other brands at this price point. If you’re on a budget (and who isn’t?) it’s something to keep in mind. The Everlasting Lip Liners are available on the KVD website and at Sephora for 18$ a pop.
