DV by Dolce Vita Sneakers

Normally, I’m not a sneakers kind of girl. After working in “corporate America” for several years I was used to getting dressed up and slipping into heels every day. Once I became a SAHM I realized I didn’t have as many casual options in my wardrobe. Sure, living in SoCal, I can get away with throwing on jeans, a tee and flip flops (and I have and it’s totally cool if that’s your MO) but I want to at least make some “self-care” effort.

I went from only owning one pair of (15+ years old, beat up) black Converse Chucks to having my choice of silver metallic Vans slip ons, Adidas Superstars (red/white) and now these pretties…

The DV by Dolce Vita Ruth high top sneakers! Shipping took a while but that’s the norm for all Target orders (at least in my experience).

I’m so in love with the dark charcoal grey color and happy I chose it instead of the black version. They fit true to size (I’m an 8 for reference) and the zipper closure make these super easy to put on/take off. Plus, the perforated cutouts are on trend (and will keep your feet cool). Highly recommend these!

Influenster : Laura Mercier

I recently downloaded the Influenster app after signing up for it years ago (like, back in 2011!) because I was looking for product reviews. After updating all my info, interests and linking to my social media accounts, I was surprised to receive a complimentary @lauramercier TLSP VoxBox in the mail!

I’ve had the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder saved in my Sephora ‘Loves’ list with the intention of buying it eventually but, I always end up getting other things instead. I’m sure y’all know how that goes, ha. Now that I’ve had a chance to play around with it, I have to say it’s has lived up to its hype.

• PROS :
finely milled
doesn’t cake up
translucent
no scent
a little goes a long way
can be applied with puff, brush or makeup sponge
various uses

• CONS :
may not be for those with very dry skin
puff is larger than container
not travel friendly

• OVERALL :
My skin is normal to dry and sensitive so I was a little wary about using a mattifying setting powder. However, I was pleasantly surprised with how this product performed. It left a nice, non-cakey appearance. And yes, it is translucent even on my skin. I applied a light dusting over my t-zone with the puff and brushed off the excess with my MAC 187 stippling brush. My face stayed matte all day, there was no oxidation and I did not experience any skin reactions.

While I do like the product and plan to incorporate it in my makeup routine, I wasn’t too thrilled about the puff being bigger than the container itself. It will have to be stored separately which can lend itself to being misplaced, getting dirty etc.

Since you can’t store the puff inside the container, it does not make it travel friendly. Once the protective sticker/cover is removed the powder will come out and accumulate on the lid when tossed around in your makeup bag. I had a similar issue with Bare Minerals containers until they changed to a twist closure. I hope this will be something they’ll look into for the future.

Despite those two nitpicky things, I am quite impressed with this powder. The price point is reasonable especially for the amount of product you’re getting. It’s available at Sephora for $28-$38 and comes in two shades; ‘translucent’ and ‘translucent medium deep’.

• Note : Opinions are my own. I received this product complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

Makeup Monday : FOTD

I’ve been averaging about 5-6 hours of sleep a night. That’s pretty good considering I’ve got a 16.5 month old who still wakes every 4 hours and I’m almost 35 weeks pregnant. I’ll take any sleep I can get at this point because I won’t get ANY next month!

As a form of self-care I try to always shower and put my face on in the mornings. It helps wake me up and get my mind right for our busy weekdays.

Makeup Monday : Too Faced Natural Matte

img_0016

This was one of my most used palettes last year (before I got my hands on the KVD Contour Eye palette, that is). The Too Faced Natural Matte eye palette ($36) is a great go-to for everyday no-makeup makeup looks.

• PROS :
– reasonably priced
– sturdy tin packaging w/ magnetic closure
– travel friendly
– great mix of neutral shades for day to night looks
– wonderful pigmentation
– smooth application, no fallout
– blends easily

• CONS :
– small mirror
– eye primer needed
– lighter shades may look chalky on darker skin tones

img_0017

• OVERALL :

My favorite shades are Heaven (all over lid and transition shade), Strapless and Chocolate Cookie (crease colors), Risqué and Sexpresso (to deepen crease and as outer corners).

I highly recommend this palette if you’re considering venturing into high-end makeup. The price point is fair and you’ll be able to mix and match the shades to create daytime and even smokey eye looks.

Friday Favorite

Happy Friday, lovelies! I thought it would be fun to do a weekly ‘Friday Favorites‘ where I showcase my favorite thing(s) for the week. It will encompass everything from beauty and skincare to home decor and even witchy items!

Without further ado, this week’s Friday Favorite is makeup related.

I fell in love with Too Faced Sweet Peach Creamy Peach Oil gloss in ‘Tickle Me Peach’. I’ve used it pretty much every day since I got it and it’s such a beautiful, wake up your face shade that’s perfect when the rest of your makeup is neutral or muted.

So, I ended up ordering two more gloss shades; ‘Peach Please’ and ‘Papa Don’t Peach’.

img_9943

Papa Don’t Peach is a great nude that goes well with all makeup looks while Peach Please is a soft pinky peach that’ll be perfect during the Spring and Summer months.
