Influenster : Laura Mercier

I recently downloaded the Influenster app after signing up for it years ago (like, back in 2011!) because I was looking for product reviews. After updating all my info, interests and linking to my social media accounts, I was surprised to receive a complimentary @lauramercier TLSP VoxBox in the mail!

I’ve had the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder saved in my Sephora ‘Loves’ list with the intention of buying it eventually but, I always end up getting other things instead. I’m sure y’all know how that goes, ha. Now that I’ve had a chance to play around with it, I have to say it’s has lived up to its hype.

• PROS :
finely milled
doesn’t cake up
no scent
a little goes a long way
can be applied with puff, brush or makeup sponge
various uses

• CONS :
may not be for those with very dry skin
puff is larger than container
not travel friendly

My skin is normal to dry and sensitive so I was a little wary about using a mattifying setting powder. However, I was pleasantly surprised with how this product performed. It left a nice, non-cakey appearance. And yes, it is translucent even on my skin. I applied a light dusting over my t-zone with the puff and brushed off the excess with my MAC 187 stippling brush. My face stayed matte all day, there was no oxidation and I did not experience any skin reactions.

While I do like the product and plan to incorporate it in my makeup routine, I wasn’t too thrilled about the puff being bigger than the container itself. It will have to be stored separately which can lend itself to being misplaced, getting dirty etc.

Since you can’t store the puff inside the container, it does not make it travel friendly. Once the protective sticker/cover is removed the powder will come out and accumulate on the lid when tossed around in your makeup bag. I had a similar issue with Bare Minerals containers until they changed to a twist closure. I hope this will be something they’ll look into for the future.

Despite those two nitpicky things, I am quite impressed with this powder. The price point is reasonable especially for the amount of product you’re getting. It’s available at Sephora for $28-$38 and comes in two shades; ‘translucent’ and ‘translucent medium deep’.

• Note : Opinions are my own. I received this product complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.
